Global warming

According to Columbia Encylopedia global warming is the gradual increase of the temperature of the earth's lower atmosphere as a result of the increase in greenhouse gases since the industrial revolution. The scientific reason for global warming is the increased burning of fossil fuels which thus increases the emission of greenhouse gases into the Earth’s atmosphere. Some greenhouse gases are produced naturally while others are the direct result of human activities.

What can we predict is that global warming doesn’t have an impact at the environment only, but human life as well. Effects of global warming on the environment include ecosystems, ocean current, and sea level. Impacts on the human level include financial matters and the spread of disease.Increasing global tempreture will cause sea levels to rise and will change the amount and pattern of precipitation, probably including expansion of subtropical deserts. Other effects of global warming include predicted impacts on the ecosystems and ocean currents. The continued rising in temperature will scientifically lessen the snow cap, create a rise in sea level, and produce weather changes. The combination of the effects of global warming will cause a change in the ecosystems. This change will force animals to leave their habitats endangering their existence and possibly even forcing them into extinction (EncycloMedia.com, 2007).

The first step to solve this crisis is to understand what global warming is and the next would be how to prevent it? There are simple things that any person can do to lessen the causes and effects of global warming. The world’s electricity is based primarily on the burning of coal, so a person should decrease the amount and their demand of electricity or try and use other methods such as solar power. The second thing any individual can do is either decreasing the overall use of one’s car or replacing it with a fuel-efficient or hybrid automobile; this will help in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The third and easiest prevention method would be to simply recycle.

Bottom of the line we all must prevent this crisis. We all can make a difference. The coming generations will blame us if we stand still because we had a choice to make it better. However, warming is expected to continue beyond 2100 even if emissions stop.

Summary 1

Summary:
The article talks mainly about the bio fuel project. Low-carbon technologies will be developed soon by the government of the UK . 26 million pounds are spend on developing the algal bio fuels. Experiments that are done to carbon-neutral fuels showed that carbon-neutral fuels will reduce emissions by 80% by 2050. Bio fuels don't affect the environment because they are made of crops. Instead of using petrol or diesel, scientists are working hard to find some kinds of oils that could be used to make car fuels. Six million pounds would be spent at least for the first step of the algal bio fuel project. This helpful project is trying to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions. And also its trying to give the world a fresh clean environment.“ Green Crude “ is a chemical mixture that will help to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Finally, the scientists are trying their best to find anything which is not a danger to the environment, which might let airplane and cars run without diesel or petrol.

Main idea:
Scientists in the UK are trying their best to find anything instead of petrol or diesel which can run cars and airplanes. Scientists hope to save our environment from carbon dioxide pollution. Scientists are working hard and thinking of helpful things instead of fuel that can be cheaper and less dangerous to the environment.

Comment:
I think that scientists are trying their best to save our environment. In my opinion the article was really interesting and I had lots of benefits from it. I really wanted to learn more about bio fuel, and what it would be made of and what would be the price of it.

Task 6

The cool city video

According to the cool city video we watched, there are many problems happening since the industrial revolution started.
The problems are:
· Carbon dioxide emissions
· An increase in earth’s temperature
· Population growth
· Traffic congestion

In order to live in earth safely, carbon dioxide must be decreased up to 50%.

Japan and some other countries started to reduce carbon emissions by travelling on bicycles and in hybrid cars, instead of using petrol cars and motor cycles.

Reducing heat in the city is a big problem that lots of countries suffer from. The important way to reduce heat is to plant green trees to soak up the emissions of carbon dioxide.

Finally, people living on earth must start thinking seriously about environmental problems. To avoid these problems and to live like cool cities we have to co-operate with each other to have a clean fresh environment free from emissions.

Summary 2

Summary
The article talks mainly about urban living. Malmo’s development is figured to have a good suitable urban living. Turning Torso takes place in Sweden where you can see the lovely colored blocks of flats cluster. Not only humans are living there, we can see insects, bats and birds living in boxes covered with roofs.
Western Harbour is located on reclaimed industrial land in the seaside town of Molno, and its one of many developments done to provide urban living. Bo01 is the new occupied apartments of the first kind. It is recorded that nine different birds started breeding in Bo01. Martin Rugfelt is a 37 year old man, who is an internet business developer. Martin Rugfelt thinks that the planners aims have worded. There are two new projects coming after the first one, Flagghusen and Full riggen Bo03. A new market is developed for people who are around the 30s and 40s who are interested in living there. In the play school quarter of the food served is organic, and children are responsible of growing their own food. Finally Malmo has introduced a similar “green points” which will increase the number of habitats , making it easier for plants and some animals to be more established and naturally increasing biodiversity.

Main points
Sweden is trying to encourage a new housing project to reduce the global warming. And it’s trying to take care of plants and animals to increase biodiversity naturally. Malmo is planning to have a clean nice environment far from pollution. People who live in this city will not need to get anything from the town, everything they will need will be there for example, markets, restaurants, schools, and hospitals.

Comment
In my opinion the task was great. I really wanted to learn more about Natural Residents, and about the flats and schools and markets in the clean village. Everyone wishes to have a nice clean environment far from pollution.

footprint (task 5)

Task 5
My individual carbon footprint is the GHG emissions that I am personally responsible for. The average figure for CRB is 3.778, and my personal footprint is 3.98 . All companies , institutions and Universities for example ADMC, and all countries have carbon footprints.
In fact, the UAE has the largest per person footprint in the whole world.
The main factors are:
¨ Travel
¨ Stuff
¨ Home

In order to reduce my carbon footprint:
I have to spend less money on goods, and I have to can my medium 4-wheel car to a small car which uses less fuel.

I usually don’t spend a lot of money on tickets, because I don’t usually travel.

I live in a big villa in Abu Dhabi. To improve my footprint I have to turn my room lights off, when I am outside. And to use less water when I take a bath.

Regarding my food:
I walk daily for at least 1 hour. My footprint doesn’t show that I spend a lot of money on food.

Summary

How Europe can save the world
Summary:
This article is about the European union, the writer talks about global warming in Europe.
The European Union has struck a deal which is the most important since its foundation fifty years ago. Climate change and energy security was discussed in their union. The EU had committed to itself to decrease its carbon dioxide emissions by 20% by the year 2020.The continent dependence on Middle Eastern oil and Russian gas will be replaced by using nuclear power, clean coal and renewable .After 2010 every new power station in Europe will have to have carbon capture and storage technology. Carbon emissions from cars will be reduced starting from next year, but there are problems. One problem is renewable energy is expensive. I concluded that we must burn less fossil fuel. Bottom of the line all other countries know that the Europeans are going ahead. And the European people are satisfied.
